• Demonstrate the ability to perform all sample injection techniques according to establishprocedure including Gases, Liquids and Syringe for MTBE Process, Feedstock and FinishedProducts combined with authority to sign off product certification reports;
• Demonstrate the ability to perform Gas, Liquid and Syringe calibration according to established procedure on each Gas chromatograph stream and for all LAB Instruments;
• Demonstrate the ability the perform the accurate integration of GC Chromatograms including detailed knowledge relating to Method choice, Data retrieval, Graphic event functions, Integration event functions, Peak table functions, Method editing and developing and report generation using existing CLIENT lab management system (MACRO) and GC operating software program (COMPASS CDS);
• Utilizing only P&ID process diagrams, demonstrate a solid understanding of the MTBE and Gas plant processes, streaming inlet to sales flow path, vessel mechanics or chemistry, stream composition and product specifications;
• Understand the purpose of the test and the significance of the results to the costumer;
• Understand the overall mechanism, chemistry and/or theory behind the procedure or instrument involved;
• Understand the significance of each step in the procedure;
• Understand what effect an error at any given step would have on the end result;
• Perform a wide variety of routine analytical laboratory analysis, including but not limited to;
• Extended chromatographic determination such as C1, to C8-, trace Sulphur compounds, olefins, oxygenates, and inert gases;
• Molecular determinations such as total Sulphur, organic nitrogen, organic halides, residue carbon, amine and glycol degradation, and dissolved oxygen;
• Chemical property determinations such as pH, conductivity, acidity, alkalinity, sulphates, chlorides, phosphates, hardness, and sample concentrations;
• Physical property determination such as specific gravity, color, turbidity, densities, viscosities, vapor pressure, copper strip, moisture content, volatility, and catalyst sizing;
• Extensive sampling of plant process for analysis by Technologists, following some onsite training;
• Operation of laboratory waters still for production of distilled water;
• Sample cylinder evacuation and cleaning;
• Data input for report generation;
• Glassware washing and general laboratory housekeeping to keep the laboratory as a safe and efficient working environment;
• Perform a wide assortment of duties as deemed necessary by laboratory technologists;
• Actual responsibilities will increase based on training and demonstrated aptitude;
• Should be conversant with plant fire and safety regulations and the use of safety equipment such as breathing apparatus and firefighting equipment;
• Precise preparation and standardization of laboratory chemical reagents;
• Perform the above stated analysis utilizing multiple technologically advanced instruments and wet chemistry procedures, including but not limited to;
• Gas chromatographs utilizing Sievers, FID and TCD detectors by themselves or in series with each other, in connection with advanced computer data handling systems;
• Total Sulphur, total organic chlorides, total carbon, oil in water analyzers and visible range spectrophotometers;
• PH meters, conductivity meters, auto titrators, Karl Fischer titrators, turbidity meters, Shaw dew point- testers;
• Equipment such as D-86 distillation, centrifuge, trifle sieves Millipore filter apparatus, desiccators, viscosimeters and muffle furnace;
• Utilizing computers and data processors, review all data to ensure quality before initiating the generation of plant reports;
• Works with independent company representative to certify products prior to shipment;
• Perform and generate Feedstock product certificates as per set ASTM and CLIENT testing methods. Including C3, C4, MeOH and MTBE products;
• Utilize technical knowledge to help trouble shoot plant process and offer creative solutions when required;
• Keep track of equipment and chemical stocks and bring requirements to the attention of the Laboratory Supervisor;
• Using the Quality Control Program, you have helped to develop, keep the instrumentation and equipment standardized and in good operational order;
• Should be conversant with plant fire and safety regulations and the use of safety equipment such as breathing apparatus and firefighting equipment;
• Perform sampling procedure according to set standards on Propane/Butane import cargos, prior to transfer to CLIENT lab for testing and certificate issuance based on marketing department instructions;
• Liaison with Operations and Engineering for all questions as they pertain to technical matters relating to the analysis and to flag any problems identified during analysis by bringing it to their attention. Utilize technical knowledge to help troubleshoot plant process and offer creative solutions;
• Perform investigations and analysis to determine properties of any unknown samples delivered to laboratory. Calibration of Gas Chromatographs and all other LAB analyzers as per set procedures and calibration standards to check for compliance and keep updated calibration records as per set practice within established time frame for analysis integrity and audits. Activities of the Laboratory including but not limited to scheduling, quality and safety control.

What you need to bring

• University degree in B.Sc. Chemistry;
• A minimum of 8 years in Petro-Chemical or Petroleum environment;
• Fully experienced in Petro-Lab analytical Instrumentation and methodologies including G.C;(FID, TCD) Elemental Analyzers, wet chemistry, and sampling procedures;
• Practical knowledge of computers and data systems;
• Commitment to quality control/assurance procedures and philosophies;
• Conversant in ASTM, UOP, and GPA methods;
• A strong mechanical and chemical aptitude;
• Must be able to closely follow instructions;
• Hard working, dependable and willing to learn;
• Strong Communication skills;
• Ability to read, understand and apply ASTM, APHA, and set methods.
