What will you be doing?
We are looking for a reporter to cover the Mideast Gulf Oil Products market through daily price assessments, news coverage, maintaining and expanding a contacts base and attending industry conferences. The reporter will also spearhead the development of our market coverage, alongside the existing editorial team in Dubai.
Candidates should possess good writing and numerical skills, plus basic computing skills. Fluency in a major regional language, in addition to English, would be an advantage. The work also involves cross-checking price assessments and including analysis in daily/ weekly commentaries.
Being part of a rapidly growing team also means there will be cross-training and plenty of opportunity to gain experience of the energy and commodities markets, along with opportunities to travel within the region for market facing meetings to develop contact relationships, and for market engagement as well as methodology and market related discussions.

- Collect market prices and make assessments, adhering to rigorous compliance standards.
- Write market commentaries, news, analysis and market outlooks; develop graphs and charts within Excel to illustrate trends and analysis; communicate this information in a timely manner to management and subscribers.
- Contribute to presentations as directed by management.
- Develop and maintain rapport with key contacts, and liaise regularly with industry stakeholders (buyers, sellers, traders, brokers) to gain market intelligence.
- Maintain existing databases and build new databases for designated products.
- Oversee methodology relevant to coverage, which includes timely communication of needed changes, additions or deletions.
- Cover conferences and events (local and regional).
- Provide subject-matter expertise to other Argus departments.
- Work on special projects as needed.
What we’re looking for in you
- A graduate with strong degree, preferably in economics, journalism, communications, business or a similarly relevant field.
- Excellent command of spoken and written English.
- Knowledge of the energy and commodity sectors useful but not essential
- Strong sense of responsibility, able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Self-motivated with eye for details and a good team player.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to network and build contacts with industry executives.
- Ability to develop, source and write industry relevant news to deadline.
- Proficiency/past experience working with Excel/Excel-based business tools.
- High level of numerical accuracy.
