The Opportunity

The Geotechnical and Tunnels team within WSP is Australia’s premier geotechnical and tunnelling operation. The team has over 450 staff working across every state and territory in Australia and delivers on a range of complex and unique challenges for our clients.

Due to current long-term workloads and anticipated growth, we are currently looking for a Principal Tunnel Ventilation Engineer By joining our tight-knit, supportive Tunnel Systems team who are renowned technical leader to join our Australian operations. You’ll be able to routinely work on and deliver innovative design outcomes for Australia’s largest transport projects

Your technical expertise will be deployed across projects in the transport, power, water, mining, property and government sectors to continue the growth of an already successful and reputable capability.

Relocating to Australia with WSP

The day-to-day:

• Managing, coordinating and leading tunnel ventilation projects from concept right through to construction in support of technical, safety, commercial and legal standards;
• Implementing your career experience to lead analysis and develop innovative designs, meeting our client’s expectations;
• Ensuring projects are delivered in-line with estimated schedules and budgets;
• Influencing, negotiating and managing effective professional relationships with clients, authorities and external stakeholders alike;
• Ongoing supervising, training and mentoring of entry-level and experienced tunnel ventilation engineers on technical and safety matters;
• Collaborating with a selection of disciplines within the tunnel systems team and broader, multidisciplinary design team throughout the WSP business;
• Collaborating with other leaders on projects, in which the internal project lead may sit in another team, or joint venture affiliate firm, and;
• Demonstrating willingness and flexibility to visit and work from client/project offices and travel as and when required, locally and at times interstate.

What we will love about you

• Bachelor of Engineering / Science / equivalent industry experience;
• Post-graduate qualified with a Masters’ to PhD level degree in Mechanical Engineering (desirable);
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status and membership with Engineers Australia;
• Circa 10 to 20 + years’ experience in consulting engineering setting, delivering quality tunnel ventilation engineering and risk mitigation outcomes for road/rail tunnels and systems;
• Established technical leadership profile in conjunction with exceptional interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills;
• Expert knowledge base and sound understanding of evolving local tunnel ventilation technology, codes, standards, legislative requirements and broader rail safety guidelines;
• Well-versed with project managing design deliverables for concurrent major projects in the transport infrastructure sector, on time and within commercial guidelines, and;
• Track record of successfully supervising, training and mentoring graduate through to senior engineers on both a technical and personal level.
