• Establish a full programme of documented health & safety inspections, audits and checks.
• Participates in the development of Health and Safety internal policies, procedures and working practices within the college directorate
• Conducts risk assessments and develops strategies for facilitating employee health and safety risks
• Outlines safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards
• Conducts regular site inspections to ensure adherence to Health and Safety policies and procedures
• Prepares and maintains inspection records and produces reports that suggest improvements
• Ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all work equipment and operations.
• Maintains incident records and produces statistics for management as required
• Investigates and reports on all personal injury accidents and damage to property and document in an incident report
• Maintains a working knowledge of Health and Safety best practices and industry policy changes
• Produces health and safety related reports, newsletters and bulletins
• Advises on a range of specialist areas including fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases
• Provides safety orientations and oversee the performance of all contractors in order to ensure safe work practices are followed
• Initiates and organizes safety awareness campaigns, including occupational safety workshops and training sessions, in an effort to ensure that employees observe established safety guidelines and procedures
• Initiates and conducts emergency evacuation drills
• Conducts regular safety and security inspections of various company facilities, systems and equipment, including first-aid rooms, production areas, electrical systems, fire extinguishers and fire hydrants to ensure compliance with international standards
• Advises on health and safety aspects in the planning and execution
• Provides immediate support and assistance in the event of an emergency
• Establishes mechanisms to meet international standards: including Quality Management systems (ISO 9001), Environmental Management (ISO 14001) & Occupational Health and safety (OHSAS 18001)
• Liaise with all related governmental ministries.
• Provide regular reports to the Department Head and Human Resources on relevant health and safety activities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Line Manager

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years of relevant practical working experience of formulating, implementing and revising H&S policies and procedures
• NEBOSH qualified
• Knowledge of Fire and Safety systems and equipment
• The ability to demonstrate the application of risk assessment to company operations and activities
• A high degree of computer literacy and demonstrated ability to integrate technology in the workplace
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated competency to interact with people at all levels of the organization
• Well-developed organizational skills
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment and to cope with pressure in a positive manner while working to deadlines within a busy and demanding environment
• A demonstrated willingness to engage in professional development activities in order to develop and improve new and current skills, and to adapt to the evolving needs of the organization
