About the Team
We are looking for a lawyer to support our rapidly growing ecommerce business teams. You will have experience advising consumer facing digital platforms in the UAE and KSA and ideally other METAP (Middle East, Turkey, Africa, Pakistan) jurisdictions, with a focus on ecommerce, retail, and online marketplaces. You will understand how local laws in the region are developing to regulate such platforms, and have the versatility to advise across a broad range of commercial, regulatory, and product workstreams, involving customers, creators, merchants, and partners. You will support a diverse range of initiatives across cross-functional and multi-jurisdictional teams to support the TikTok ecommerce teams in METAP.

Responsibilities:
You will join a team that is dedicated to delivering excellent stakeholder service to achieve pragmatic solutions for the business. In doing so you will:
– Provide advice and guidance on a wide range of operational, regulatory, commercial and product counselling ecommerce matters, with a focus on consumer protection, B2B and B2C engagement, product compliance, advertising, influencer marketing, and intellectual property.
– Support the business in understanding and complying with legal and regulatory requirements when launching and operating new products, features, and initiatives in KSA, UAE and the METAP region more broadly.
– Contribute to the continuous improvement of TikTok ecommerce initiatives through review of consumer and business facing disclosures, policies, and terms and conditions, and support for feature development.
– Review, draft, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements relevant to digital and ecommerce platforms.
– Contribute to template development, process improvement and internal training, identifying and resolving opportunities to simplify workflows and reduce contractual friction.
– Work closely with international stakeholders in legal, privacy, and public policy, to deliver projects against short timeframes, setting appropriate priorities and managing legal risk.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
– Strong academic background, with legal qualifications to practice law in the US, UK, or another METAP jurisdiction.
– 5+ years of practice advising ecommerce or retail companies (preferably within the GCC or Middle East). We would consider applicants with the right experience and skill-set outside of this range.
– Ideally some in-house experience in an international matrixed organisation.
– Experience in drafting and negotiation of agreements across the retail, creative, and advertising industries.
– Knowledge of laws as they apply to the retail sector, and ecommerce platforms.
– Experience advising on platform liability, intellectual property, consumer protection, regulatory and compliance schemes vis-a-vis new technology and e-commerce products and customer/third party agreements.
– Strong documentation, presentation, and communication skills.
– Ability to work independently on many different projects at once in a fast-paced environment.
– Experience in providing legal advice in the areas of trust and safety and content moderation is desirable.
– Strong command of English. Arabic is a plus.
