Shell Trading & Supply (T&S) offers you the opportunity to join its Global Products Freight Team consisting of approximately thirty (30) freight trading professionals globally across Houston, London, Rotterdam, Dubai and Singapore, T&S offices.
The freight team are highly involved in the long-term time charter strategy, valuation of new time charter deals, P & L monitoring and hedging of the time charter vessel portfolio using the available paper derivatives in the market. In addition, it provides an FFA trading service to the oil books.
The Dubai Products Freight team are covering either CPP/DPP/Restricted Chemical markets and LR/MR/HANDY/Restricted Chemical vessels. Freight Traders can expect to move between these sectors periodically to support team development and ensure business continuity.
What’s the role?
The successful candidate will require to have medium-experience level freight experience and be expected to function in virtual teams, establish a good network with third parties, develop a high profile and be a driving force in the team. Knowledge of Shell systems, risk reporting and an ability to contribute towards our future trading strategies is an essential part of the role. The incumbent must maintain and grow the interface between Trading and Shipping, and to some extent Legal & Finance, ensuring our business requirements always get full support.
As medium-experienced level Freight Trader the main daily commercial responsibilities for the allocated freight market includes but are not limited to:
Procure tonnage for Group requirements and standards from the open market at the most competitive rates and terms consistent with our uncompromising safety standards.
Close working relationship with the Trading & Supply oil desks on tenders and arbitrage economics, providing regular market assessments, rate indications and competitor intelligence to the T&S oil desks.
All aspects of freight trading, scheduling and optimization with respect to time charter fleet operated by Products Freight to support the T&S oil trading business.
Strong focus on profitability through efficient and creative trading of tonnage positions and working efficiently within the Global Freight team to ensure we maximize profit.
Capable of developing and offering freight shorts and CoA’s to both internal T&S desks and external counterparties, recognizing and evaluating the risks & rewards of such freight structures.
Engage with shared functions to ensure efficient P&L management, including but not limited to, demurrage, post deal expenses, freight operations and time charter management.
Offer guidance and direction to freight operations on the operational management, programming, scheduling and cost/income tracking of time charter vessels.
Support the Global Products Freight desk build a sustainable business for future years ahead with innovative and commercial advantageous freight solutions.
Capable of support and providing holiday cover for the Regional Team Leader and Global Book Leader.
What we need from you?
The Products Freight market can be a very competitive and pressured environment and the successful candidate must be prepared to work constantly look at how we can optimize our freight requirements to deliver maximum P&L.
Have knowledge of Charter Parties including time charter, spot & CoA.
Detailed knowledge of commercial tanker pooling agreements.
Detailed knowledge of sale & purchase agreements within tanker sector.
Ensure the establishment of good lines of direct communication with appropriate internal functions, major ship owner, third party charterers and ship brokers.
Be technically proficient regarding the daily operation of tankers along with terminal requirements.
Good communications skills, creativity, and a desire to make decisions, and take the associated risks, are all important skills. The successful candidates will be able to challenge established practices and look for new trading strategies for us to develop.
