Midrex is based in Charlotte, North Carolina with global offices in the United Kingdom, China, India, and Dubai. Midrex is wholly owned by Kobe Steel, Ltd.

The Commissioning Manger provides on-site direction of all company commissioning, start-up and performance test activities required for the assigned plant. This includes training of client personnel, when required by the contract. Function as the primary Company on-site representative for commissioning and start-up.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Interviews, hires, and develops teammates in the department.
• Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of the department.
• Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
• Handles discipline and termination in accordance with company policy.
• In the field:
  • Organizes and oversees the schedules and work at site.
  • Supervise pre-operation activities such as checking and/or testing mechanical, electrical and instrumentation systems prior to start-up of a new plant.
  • On-site administration of other Company operations personnel during the on-site assignment.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide the main client interface during commissioning and start-up.
• Prepare and submit all reports of commissioning and start-up activities.
• Adherence to all safety procedures during commissioning and start-up.
• Checking and acceptance of equipment and/or systems as ready for commissioning and start-up activities.
• Participate in conducting training and on the job training of client personnel, if required by the contract.
• Gives direction of operations for all required performance tests including the collection of required data, acceptance by the client and turnover of the plant to the clients personnel.
• Participate in or conduct lessons learned sessions with department members during and after each project, and share this knowledge with the full department.
• Conduct best practices review within the department and use to continually improve the work processes.

Skills/Abilities:

Required:

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to supervise personnel with various backgrounds / citizenships and communicate with all levels of the Company and client organizations.
• Good written and verbal skills.
• Ability to train and mentor others.

Preferred:

• Multi-lingual preferred

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering or a minimum of 15 years of operations experience in a similar plant may be substituted for a technical degree
• A minimum of ten years of commissioning, start-up or plant operations experience required.

Travel Requirements:

• Ability to travel domestically and internationally for both short term (less than 6 months) and long term (more than 6 months) assignments.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to move around a project site, including climbing structures.
• Ability to work extended hours, when necessary.
