Jacobs is looking for a Material technologist specialized in durability related to infrastructure projects in the Middle East Region. This is a key position providing material science advise to cross cutter disciplines involving bridge, water, ports and marine, rail and buildings.
You will be responsible for preparing durability strategy for the project, developing specification and development of materials to advance technologies of many kinds. You will be an expert in understanding the properties and behaviors of different construction materials, from raw materials to finished products.
As a Material technologist, you will be developing durability strategy for infrastructure projects exposed to harsh environmental conditions in Middle East. You will be developing best combination of materials suitable for exposure conditions whilst developing specifications for materials to assess how resistant they are to heat, corrosion or chemical attack. You will be responsible for assessing materials for specific qualities (such as electrical conductivity, durability, renewability) and considering the implications for waste and other environmental pollution issues of any product or process. You will be able to solve problems that may arise either during the manufacturing process or with the finished product (e.g., problems caused by daily wear and tear or change of environment) and advising on quality control throughout the construction and production process. This is a great opportunity for you to ensure that products comply with national and international legal and quality standards and be advising on inspection, maintenance, and repair procedures.
We are looking for the following skills:
Ability to write specifications for concrete, steel including painting protection
Ability to write performance specifications for Cathodic protection system
Able to undertake Durability study and Assessments include Life Cycle analysis
Concrete Mix design
Condition Assessment of existing structures
Crack repairs
Understanding of Underwater concreting
Thermal Modelling is preferred
Understanding of Concrete in Arabian Peninsular including CIRIA 766
Here’s What You’ll Need
As a successful candidate will have a degree with a specialization in Material Science from an internationally recognized and accredited university. You will have a minimum of 10-12 years of experience. You will be highly proficient in using software/tools associated with durability modelling and a thorough knowledge of Euro codes, DMRB and AASHTO. You will have a working knowledge of international specifications and Middle Eastern authorities/local municipality specifications. You will be working with a great team so you must have an open and approachable nature, who strives to help and inspire others within the team. You would ideally have experience in design and build schemes, be progressing towards achieving membership/accreditation of an appropriate engineering council or body. You must be fluent in English – reading, writing, and speaking (required) and Arabic is desirable but not mandatory.
