Main Responsibilities:
Unit/Clinic Management
- Ensure cleanliness of the working unit and supervise ancillary staff as required.
- Coordinate nursing services with services of other disciplines.
- Ensure that infection control and waste management protocols are followed.
- Promote a safe environment for patients, visitors and co-workers including the implementation of infection control policies of the Clinics.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other members of the health care team.
- Escort visitors, Senior Management and other government officials at their visit to the medical centres whenever required.
- Maintains an acceptable standard of attendance and reports to work on time.
Patient Care & Service Excellence
- Carries out physician’s orders and reviews nursing and medical orders for accuracy and appropriateness.
- Prepares, administers, and documents the administration of oral, parental and topical medications as prescribed by the physician.
- Ensure that patients / family are provided with adequate and appropriate information and reassurance and consent is taken prior to medical and nursing intervention.
- To be knowledgeable of therapeutic effects, usual dosages, contraindications, side effects and adverse reactions for all drugs and parental fluids administered.
- Maintains accountability for medications and controlled drugs.
- Intervenes appropriately in clinical emergency situations, initiates emergency resuscitative measures and assists with codes.
- Sets up equipment for and assists physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Assists with transfer of patients within the health care facilities.
- Performs a systematic initial and ongoing assessment of the patient’s physical and psychosocial status, specific to the age of the patient.
- Teaches patients and their families with emphasis on compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimen. Supports families in meeting the patient’s psychosocial needs.
- Demonstrates priority setting skills and timeliness in responding to patient needs.
- Acts as a patient advocate and develops supportive relationships with patient/family maintaining a professional role.
- Uses verbal and written communication in an accurate concise and timely manner that conveys respect for the patient/family/visitor/staff.
Professional Expectations
- Ensure adequate manning at units / nursing stations.
- Assign/Deploy nurses to doctors according to their experience, skill sets and requirements.
- Ensure availability of adequate technical and nursing support to the doctors and nurses, follow the treatment advised by the respective doctor.
- Prepare and maintain nurse’s duty roaster and supervise the nurses.
- Ensure and monitor Infection control & waste management in the unit.
- Manage day to day clinical activities of the unit.
- Ensure the nursing staff adheres to the safe infection control practices.
- Ensure the required levels of drugs is in sufficient quantity and are available for patient care.
- Maintain nursing supplies inventory by studying usage reports; identifying trends. Ensure patient monitoring & documentation as per specification
- Ensure safe & excellent delivery of patient care and nursing assessment of all patients is carried out.
- Monitor and ensure appropriate nursing records of patients are maintained.
Inventory Management
- Indent medicines & materials, supervise proper stocking, inventory control, and arrangement & medication management.
- Ensure the equipment are in working condition, logbooks are updated and drugs and materials are within safety limits. Carry out preventive maintenance and routine inspections of equipment .
- Ensure to prepare and autoclave materials for dressing/nursing care.
- Ensure timely reporting of damage and ensure repair or replacement.
Clinical Risk and Safety Management
- Maintains a safe, clean and organized environment for the patient/family/visitors and staff.
- Performs a wide range of nursing procedures with attention to accuracy, patient safety and comfort, including those requiring strict aseptic technique.
- Monitor the emergency medical equipment’s (defibrillator, suction apparatus, oxygen etc.) on a regular basis to ensure their availability when required.
- Maintains infection control and safety awareness, functions accordingly and initiates corrective action when indicated.
- Participates in fire and disaster drills and mock codes.
- Adopt correct procedure for cleaning, washing and autoclaving instruments.
- Ensure ethical accountability and legal compliance in all actions.
Management & Staff Development
- Participate in official meetings & contribute in achieving objective of the clinic.
- Arrange and participate in professional and social functions of the staff.
- Arrange orientation programmes for new nursing staff and assigning preceptor to mentor.
- Maintain discipline among nursing staff.
- Keep the senior nursing officials (Nurse Manager) informed of the happenings in the clinics related to Clinical natters.
- Effective team work should be maintained & sustained in clear direction, open & honest communication, mutual accountability, collaboration & team trust.
- Always maintain an adequate coordination with departments like Customer care, Insurance, Quality, Operations, etc.
Professional & Personal Development
- Enhance own professional growth by updating theoretical knowledge & practical skill through self-learning & participating in training programs.
- Be compliant with licensing requirements.
- Assist in development and /or implementation of unit based policies & procedures related to patient care.
- Participate in programs for quality improvement in nursing practices.
