Kings’ School Al Barsha is seeking an outstanding Secondary SENCO to join our established Inclusion Team. The successful candidate will further develop the school-wide culture of inclusion by continuing to improve the range of provision that the school offers, and facilitating opportunities to up-skill staff from across the school. This includes both Learning Support staff, as well as mainstream Classroom Teachers and Learning Assistants.

Purpose of the role:

• To raise standards of achievement of children with a SEN
• To increase staff confidence and competence in teaching children with a SEN
• To ensure children with SEN have full entitlement to the Kings’ curriculum

Job Responsibilities:

• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEN provision through an evaluative provision map.
• Track children’s progress and set targets for raising achievement for children with SEN.
• Ensure up to date and accurate records are kept of all interventions / involvement for individual children.
• Take a lead on aspects of the Self Evaluation Framework (SEF) including a time table which relate to SEN and inclusive provision.
• Support and develop colleagues in relation to SEN through advice, guidance and organisation of in-service training.
• Keep up to date with knowledge of international, national and local initiatives and how they may impact upon policy and practice.
• Undertake professional development activities to increase own effectiveness.
• Work alongside a multidisciplinary team including: LInK teachers, Learning
• Support Teachers, Well-being Coach, Speech and Language Therapist,
• Educational Psychologist and any other external agencies as required
• Support the identification process of students who may have SEN
• Support teachers in producing an engaging environment that is creative and promotes the advancement of communication, language and behaviour regulation.
• Develop a network for sharing of good practice
• Have up to date knowledge with regards to the implementation of learning strategies, resources and current inclusive practice.
• Liaise with the Primary teachers, inclusion team, SENCO and pathways leader to work towards best practice and inclusive opportunities for all pupils as students transition from primary to secondary
• Work alongside parents to ensure a mutual sharing of techniques and knowledge of pupils

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• British Secondary School trained including QTS
• SENCo qualified
• Previous special needs classroom teaching experience – minimum 2 years
• Have experience working in Secondary settings
• Qualified to assess pupils for Access Arrangements (desirable not essential)
• Experienced in the use of Makaton (desirable but not essential)
• Ability to adapt curriculums to meet the needs of the individual child
• Ability to support and upskill mainstream teachers on strategies to support students in their care
• Ability to create Individual Education Plans
• A clear personal philosophy of Education
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills
• An understanding of how best to support and remove the barriers to learning for children
• Ability to understand and interpret the root causes of a range of challenging behaviours and to implement effective behaviour management strategies
• An excellent understanding of how to teach the National Curriculum with hands on and functional approach
• Commitment to inclusive education that meets the needs of the individual child
