Job Description
Over-The-Air (OTA) and Infotainment Field Validation and Testing

This position will be responsible for coordinating with Vehicle Homeroom Engineering Teams to perform over the air update testing and verification of successful updates and module programming as well as perform infotainment validation testing as required. The selected candidate will be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for validation of telematics and infotainment on the vehicle. The selected candidate will also be responsible for identifying and accruing the necessary vehicles from MEO and/or dealer inventory, developing the test plan, capturing the necessary data before and after OTA updates and then coordinating and resolving issues prior software release and/or vehicle launch.

Radio System and Other Subsystem Test and Validation (Bench Testing)

This position will be responsible for coordinating with Engineering Teams to perform component level validation focusing on over the air updates. They will also be responsible for maintaining and updating electrical benches used to perform module specific testing. Work may include wiring changes, module reprogramming and capturing and reporting test logs/vehicle data. The candidate will also be responsible for validating the localization content for Middle East (Ex: Validating Arabic language content.)

OnStar Module Update Support

This position will work closely with the Middle East OnStar team to support the Connected operations team in programming vehicles and data collection for issue resolution.

GM Vehicle Programming Updates and Support

This position will work closely with the Middle East Quality, Marketing and PR teams to update vehicles to the latest and greatest software levels and to provide on vehicle support as needed.

This role is highly technical and requires deep understanding of modern vehicle architecture systems. The person in this role will work multi-functionally and globally to collaborate with Business, IT development and operations, engineering, quality and aftersales teams to ensure the flawless launch of connected vehicle programs.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Develop & Execute test plans and procedures that comprehend OTA and infotainment requirements and functionalities
  • Execute validation procedures for the feature on both bench and vehicle properties
  • Ability to capture vehicle data
  • Develop project management test plans and scheduling
  • Analyse performance to identify any issues/risks – Triage system level nonconformities to the appropriate offending module or back-office system
  • Follow issue resolution from issue origination through verification, closure, and monitoring
  • Develop and implement new test methods to improve quality/efficiency (automation, etc)
  • Document all anomalies using existing documentation tools (PRTS/SW PRTS/TFS)
  • Provide regular status updates on current performance and performance enhancement activities
  • Update related process flows, performance and other documents to reflect the changes and communicate them with all the collaborators
  • Identify vital process improvement ideas by working with other business partners such as global stakeholders and SMEs
  • Fully understand interactions with GMNA OTA and Infotainment validation teams
  • Participate/Lead design/process related technical discussions with development teams and/or other collaborators
  • Work with multi-functional teams to acquire test vehicles
  • Work with engineering to maintain and update test benches with new modules, wiring and components
  • Participate in validation global forum to understand up coming work and activities
  • Validation of campaigns and information in Arabic to complete in-region evaluation
  • Support DBT (Digital Business Team) regional release validation requirements, including but not limited to, OnStar mobile app features, blue button press, diagnostics, etc., as the need arises per release.
  • Verify carrier connectivity and onboarding


Additional Job Description

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in vehicle technical engineering or training
  • Experience in process definition (requirement), validation
  • Experience with environmental, diagnostics, and serial data testing
  • Understanding of automotive serial data protocols (CAN, MOST, Ethernet, etc)
  • Experience with automotive tools (Vehicle Spy, Canoe, Mocha, etc)
  • Demonstrates ability to build strong cross-organizational relationships to facilitate cooperation and coordination with teams
  • Experience working with technical teams during time-sensitive/issue resolution incident management
  • Strong demonstrable experience and understanding of vehicle architecture and design principles related to system validation and testing
  • Technical background or Level 2/3 support in problem-solving to identify, prioritize and communicate complicated technical issues
  • Knowledgeable and comfortable with new technologies and business models
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are complex and difficult
  • Experience with telematics related components and functionality
  • Experience with PC driven test equipment and systems
  • Basic knowledge of cellular systems
  • Exposure to Over the Air Reflash feature/validation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English & Arabic


Preferred Skills:

  • Prior experience with vehicle infotainment, telematics, or navigation systems
  • Knowledge of OnStar System and support systems.
  • Direct experience at OnStar in one or more of the following areas:

    • Requirements definition
    • Issue resolution
    • Product validation
    • Process definition
    • Service delivery
    • Vehicle programming


Education
:

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, or related degree or equivalent experience
