The Post:

This position is a fantastic opportunity to make an impact in the growth and development of Teaching, Learning and Curriculum at GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail. You will work as part of the Primary Leadership Team to ensure the students at The Academy receive a world class education.

To do this, the Vice Principal will be accountable for providing professional leadership and management in the development of Teaching, Learning and the FS and Primary Curriculum so as to secure high-quality teaching, effective use of resources and improved standards of learning and achievement for all pupils. The Vice Principal will also actively participate in whole-school self-evaluation and school improvement planning and will be responsible for the coaching, mentoring and development of all staff.

About the Role:

Teaching and Learning:

• To oversee and monitor the effectiveness of learning and teaching including lesson observation, learning walks and work scrutiny, holding middle and senior leaders to account for the consistent implementation of the teaching and learning policy and the Teaching Principles
• To raise standards of student attainment and achievement within the school by ensuring the highest standard of teaching is taking place
• Develop and lead on Quality Improvement Projects, which enhance the learner experience and result in improved classroom delivery
• Lead and provide direction in the Academy’s work on developing a culture of all students being able to achieve highly as per the High Performance Learning framework
• Model consistently high-quality teaching and be able to demonstrate excellent practice to others
• Coordinate with Inclusion to further teaching support and develop and implement strategies for Quality First Teaching
• To coordinate the mentoring/coaching of individual teachers’ in need of 1-to-1 support to improve their practice
• To be an active lead member of the whole school teaching and learning team

Curriculum:

• Lead the development and management of the overall curriculum
• Ensure continuity of the core subjects creates a seamless transition for students across the Primary phase from EYFS through to the end of KS2.
• Ensure that curriculum provision is responsive, appropriate and meets the needs of the student body and of the requirements of external assessment and regulatory bodies.
• Ensure personalised learning remains a core priority in curriculum design and adaptation to meet these needs of all students.
• QA, monitor, develop and lead on year group and department long-term and medium-term planning including retrieval opportunities
• Monitor and QA the planning of year groups’ and departments’ schemes of work; use and deployment of resources; and evaluation of teaching and learning
• Provide subject leader support and guidance to ensure the continued focus on raising standards
• Monitor, develop and lead on home learning provision across FS and Primary
