About the Role

Who we are

FTI Consulting’s Insurance Claims Services team specialise in the assessment of financial losses ensuing from insured perils. We quantify insured losses in the context of contractual claims, litigation, arbitration, expert determination and mediation.

As part of the wider Economic and Financial Consulting practice, our multi-disciplinary team provides specialist accounting and insurance expertise to support our clients. We prepare independent and reliable assessments of the economic losses sustained by clients in a range of contexts, often following interruption to a business’s operations. We work closely with international law firms and global conglomerates, on varied and challenging assignments across a wide spectrum of industries.

What we do

Examples of some of our recent projects include:

Quantifying economic losses ensuing from business interruption following operational restrictions arising from COVID-19
We were engaged to assess the economic losses arising from the closure of our client’s leisure resorts following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our tasks included the quantification of loss of profits, and associated savings across multiple properties, liaising closely with our client’s appointed legal counsel to align our analysis with the client’s policy specifications.

Quantifying economic losses ensuing from property damage due to a fire at a pharmaceutical production facility

We were engaged to assess the financial losses resulting from the fire at a manufacturing plant. Our tasks included ascertaining the property damage rectification costs and calculating the associated loss of profits and increased costs of working due to the temporary closure of the plant.

What You’ll Do

• (Senior) Directors are involved in the full range of our work.
• (Senior) Directors have a central role on projects, taking day-to-day responsibility for delivery, organisation of the work into streams, and leading Consultants or Senior Consultants. Typically, Directors will develop other senior project team members with the approach to projects, or parts of large projects, and are responsible for anticipating, identifying and resolving issues.
• (Senior) Directors are responsible for the preparation of formal reports, including their structure and content.
• (Senior) Directors will develop and manage a network of professional relationships with clients and others.

Basic qualifications

• Suitable candidates will be problem-solvers who enjoy developing and applying bespoke approaches to solve complex, unstructured problems in a logical manner.
• Candidates will have strong analytical skills; be able to explain their work and communicate their conclusions and findings clearly, both orally and in writing; and be able to draw upon considerable experience of applying principles to solve problems in practice. The ideal candidate will have an eye for both the big picture and for detail.
• Sufficient relevant professional experience to demonstrate the ability to be an effective (Senior) Director and alignment with our firm’s values of integrity, creativity, achievement, respect and empathy;
• An ACCA, ACA, CFA or other relevant qualification (preferably).

Knowledge & competencies

In addition, the following knowledge and competencies are required:

• A solid understanding of the principal concepts in quantifying the economic losses and increased costs of working arising from insured perils, as well as understanding the implications and impact of any mitigating factors such as savings. A good candidate also displays detailed accountancy skills and a deep understanding of insurance concepts;
• To be able to develop and apply robust methods to address complex economic and/or financial issues;
• The ability to solve complex problems under pressure;
• An ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines whilst having to rely on inputs provided by others;
• To communicate effectively and authoritatively verbally and in writing in the English language. The candidate should have experience in writing and structuring reports, and acting as a regular day-to-day contact for clients; and
• To be proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
