As a Data Protection and Privacy intern, you will support the privacy function in working with the business to comply with Data Privacy and Protection laws.

It is required that companies retain a record of processes for the business that involves personal data (information that identifies individuals).

The objective of this role will be to work with the various teams in the business (starting with Bayut/Dubizzle in UAE) and help them to document their processes in a collective “record of processing”.

In this role, you will:

Create a record that will clearly demonstrate how personal data is used in each area of the business and the categories of data used.

Map out the flow of data used throughout the business. Interview business leads to understand their processes and document them using google docs and excel.

Understanding and documenting the processes and providing guidance in highlighting where there may be security vulnerabilities or where additional controls are required for the processes.

Liaise with each business to implement any immediate necessary controls. Assist with undertaking and cataloguing risk assessments for each process/asset. Communicate findings and insights to team members and stakeholders through reports and presentations. Perform the data analysis required to complete traceability or data lineage relationships. Be a point of contact in minor Privacy/Data Protection matters.

Requirements

A qualification or research or project work experience in a relevant subject – this might be from a degree, or a research project or similar.

Current or recent graduate studying towards a degree in Information Security, Privacy, Management Information Systems, or Computer Science. Mapping out data flows and documenting business processing activity. Business analysis experience. Familiarity with AWS, Excel, Google docs and sheets. Experience of data protection, privacy laws or compliance/risk generally is an advantage. An understanding of privacy/security disciplines. Confident working with new people, explaining objectives and guiding others through processes. Delivering at Pace. Ability to collate material for reporting (including developing relevant metrics). Strong communicator and presenter (written and verbal). Strong analysis and assessment skills to evaluate risks. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Confident working with compiling data, analysing outcomes. Organised and detail oriented.
