The position is for a Senior Electrical Engineer, to be part of our MEP Engineering team in the Dubai office.

Role

• Reporting to the Regional Head of MEP Engineering, as part of the Dubai Buildings team
• High calibre, hands-on Electrical design engineer who is able to work unsupervised on high end and/or complex buildings, from concept stage through to construction and handover
• Allocate and manage the quality and performance of Electrical engineering work from assigned engineers and junior engineers where directed
• Where Electrical design on Gulf projects is being performed by other Arup Group offices, collaborate closely with those remote design teams and ensure compliance with local requirements and where directed, assist and represent the satisfactory performance of their services to local clients and stakeholders
• Mentor and coach junior Electrical engineers where directed
• Check and review Electrical design work undertaken both locally and remotely by Arup Electrical design engineers
• Forecast, plan and manage own workload and technical/commercial/programme progress against agreed criteria
• Provide Electrical engineering technical support and engage personally where required to successfully enable Local Authorities’ approvals on all projects, whether locally or remotely designed
• Raise and maintain the profile and reputation of Arup Electrical engineering in the region by developing network contacts and participating in appropriate industry events

Requirements and skills

• Degree qualified in an Electrical/Building Services Engineering subject with a minimum of seven years post graduate work experience
• Chartered Engineer status through the UK Engineering Council and hold Member grade with CIBSE or IET
• High technical proficiency in Electrical and ELV building services on high-end and/or complex buildings, from design through construction and particularly in the Middle East
• Proven track record of confident client and stakeholder engagement
• BIM proficient
• Demonstrable track record in delivering excellent technical quality and commercial performance on Electrical design projects in the Middle East
• Experienced in working within teams on multi-disciplinary projects and interacting with a wide range of architectural, engineering and planning disciplines
• Ability to work under pressure and meet challenging deadlines is essential
• Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal)
• Experience of working in the Middle East to local codes and standards and procedures for Local Authority approvals
• Experienced in Electrical design to British Standards / NEC / CIBSE / NFPA Standards
• Experienced in the site supervision and testing and commissioning of Electrical and ELV systems
• Proficient in LV power system modelling and analysis software such as Amtech (or similar), lighting software (Dialux, Relux, or similar), Lightning Protection (StrikeRisk or similar)
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Meet the base competency requirements for Grade 5

Desirable

• Previous work experience in the Middle East
• Registration with the Dubai Municipality and membership with the UAE Society of Engineers
• Knowledge of sustainable design, preferably having worked on Estidama, QSAS and LEED certified projects
• Proficient with REVIT and Navisworks
• Proficient in HV power system design, modelling and analysis
