Workshop and Print Center Operator
The American University in Dubai invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Workshop and Print
Center Operator.
To operate the Print Center and the workshops of the School of Architecture Art and Design that comprises
machinery & fabrication tools.
Principal Responsibilities:
- To operate Plotter and Printer machines
- To prepare machines for printing
- To ensure that paper rolls, paper and ink meet specifications
- To correct paper jams
- To monitor the printing process
- To make corrections in order to avoid losses of papers and ink.
- To perform preventive maintenance
- To inspect and examine computer files and printed products for print clarity, and color accuracy.
- To provide printing service to students, faculty and staff
- To work in shifts occasionally, especially during mid and end of the semester term.
- To provide technical support for all Studio areas.
- To supervise and ensure studio areas and their equipment are maintained in a clean, safe and operational
condition.
- To purchase in consultation with relevant staff/faculty members the materials and equipment in a timely and
efficient manner to enable practical classes and teaching to be successfully conducted.
- To prepare equipment and materials for classes and teaching.
- To work with studio faculty on the technical and fabrication aspects of the student’s studio practice as required,
including operating the laser cutting machine and 3D printer
- To provide regular maintenance and service to equipment as required.
- To assist with School duties as directed by the Dean of the school and Chairs of the three departments of the
school.
- To assist in exhibition installation in the School’s Gallery when necessary.
- To implement and monitor UAE National Work Place Health & Safety standards into the Colleges workshops and
studio areas.
- To enforce the regulations within the school safety workshop manual.
- To work in shifts occasionally, especially during mid and end of the semester term.
Competencies and Skills Used:
- To detect malfunctions and make any necessary adjustments.
- To have basic knowledge of computer software (Photoshop, In Design, AutoCAD…).
- To be able to work on both windows and Mac systems.
- To be energetic, positive and willing to learn new skills.
- To be able to use Laser cutters and 3D printers.
- To be able to use basic metal and wood working/fabrication machinery.
- To be able to use portable electric and air operated tools.
- To have knowledge and use hand tools.
- To be able to use 2D & 3D design equipment.
- To be energetic, positive and willing to learn new skills.
- To have good oral and written communication skills in English.
- To have organizational and time management skills.
- To have the ability to concentrate and work well under pressure.
