• Previous experience working within highly matrixed, complex organizational structures

Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) seeks a self-motivated, high-judgement, well-connected and experienced public relations professional to lead communications in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and Turkey.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter who can clearly formulate and communicate PR recommendations and plans to peers, third party stakeholders, and executives, can drive collaborative decisions and deliver results. The candidate will be comfortable providing counsel and guidance to senior executives and a variety of internal and external stakeholders across multiple disciplines.

The ideal candidate is a social media expert, has extensive media relations experience working with a press contacts across technology, vertical, and national business publications. They will have a track record of pitching proactive stories on a national scale, and driving positive news cycles, in-depth customer stories, and the ability to manage reactive issues.

The right candidate is an expert writer, familiar with crisis communications, can balance strategic thinking with tactical, detailed execution, is able to exercise high-judgment while acting quickly, and is comfortable working with senior executives.

This role is based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and will require periodic travel.

Key job responsibilities

• Regularly interact with senior leadership to develop and communicate AWS’s stories and strategic messages
• Devise and deliver the PR strategy and plan for MENA and Turkey, including communicating plans internally and securing leadership approvals
• Develop and strengthen relationships with technology, vertical, and business press and influencers
• Drive proactive technology and customer focused stories
• Write and evolve local messaging and talking points
• Write and edit press releases, blogs, posts, pitches, and communications plans
• Manage complex, fast-moving, and unexpected communications challenges with high-judgment and professionalism
• Comfortable in dealing with ambiguity, and resourceful in problem-solving
• Manage a third-party agency to support PR activities
• An entrepreneurial spirit, including ability to work independently and autonomously
• Strong judgment and the ability to respond quickly, yet thoughtfully, to urgent PR matters
• A network of strong media contacts
• Passionate about excellence in writing and verbal communications in both Arabic and English
• Ability to set strategy and execute flawlessly
