UAE NATIONAL ROLEZayed National Museum, the national museum of the UAE, will narrate the rich history of the land and the region and tell the story of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, his unification of the United Arab Emirates and the UAE’s long-standing cultural connections across the world.Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Lord Norman Foster, the museum was founded in the spirit of Sheikh Zayed’s work and strongly held values, which encompassed a passionate belief in education, conservation, environment, sustainability, heritage, and culture all underpinned by his humanitarianism and strong faith.Zayed National Museum will hold in trust a collection of art and artefacts from the ancient and living cultures of the UAE, Arabia, and the broader Middle East. It will also be the primary institution in the UAE to display material related to the life and achievements of the late Sheikh Zayed.A center of learning and discussion, the museum will actively research the UAE’s history and culture through archaeological fieldwork, archive research and the gathering of oral histories.Job PurposeThe role of the Communications Section Head is to develop and manage all strategic museum communications, approve all press and PR campaigns, commissions and manage PR agencies. Managerial Responsibilities• Support the Director of Marketing & Communications in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the annual communications plan.• Manage the Communication Section team including recruitment & selection, priority & project assignment, goal setting & performance management, mentoring & coaching, and professional development.• Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to evaluate communication strategy success across all lines of business. Responsibilities Pre-Opening• Work with the Director of Marketing & Communications to create an effective strategy for communications that conveys the Museum’s broader institutional vision and produces broad-based awareness and engagement for its diverse audiences. Add tendering process and bringing on board agencies. Ongoing• Ensure the coordination and unification of all Museum communication activity. Work closely with other departments to integrate the promotion of specific programs and objectives into the Museum’s overall communication strategy.• Direct efforts to increase media coverage of the Museum’s exhibitions, programming, and acquisitions in high profile local, national, and international media.• On going collaboration with the DCT strategic department.• Oversee all media relations efforts and manage press events, pitch strategy, writing and editing of materials for distribution to local, regional, and national media.• Manage, monitor and assess internal institutional messaging and appropriate vehicles to ensure internal audiences, understand and have access to available channels of communication.• Collaborate with the Development Office to ensure communications programmes reach and activate current and potential funders and donors.• Develop and cultivate relationships with local and regional media professionals including those in traditional and emerging channels.• Manages communication project timelines, ensures production of content adheres to deadlines and delivers press placement in high-profile and highly visible outlets.• Maintains and secures corporate and media partnerships, including the negotiation, drafting and execution of proposals and contracts.• Prepares communication materials for local and national media campaigns and other appropriate audiences.• Oversees the response to media requests and ensures information released in print, social, web-based and broadcast media is consistent, accurate and effective.• Work with the Director of Marketing and Communications to develop a crisis communication strategy, policy and process and provide crisis communications recommendations as needed.• Approve all press and PR campaigns, commission and manage press agencies.PERSON SPECIFICATIONRequired Experience • Minimum of 8 years of experience• Proven history of developing and maintaining positive professional relationships with the media.• Proven track record in developing, implementing and maintaining an effective press strategy and tactics that results in editorial coverage.• Analytical skills to be able to interpret social media and other online data to react to issues and other concerns that may affect the museum’s communications strategies.• Experience of crisis management.Required Education / Qualifications• Degree-level in a relevant subject, e.g. communications, marketing.Preferred Education• Professional postgraduate qualification in marketing, press or PR.
